HRS Cross-Wave: Child Proximity (Version 1.0)

May 17, 2010

The HRS Cross-Wave Child Proximity (Version 1.0) Release is now available.

This data set contains proximity measures for HRS family respondents and children and step-children for 2004, 2006 and 2008. The HRS asks family respondents for information on the ZIP Code or city/state of their children, provided that those children live further than 10 miles from the household. The proximity measures contained in this data set are calculated for those cases where the child lives more than 10 miles from the family respondent.

Child coordinate information was obtained from the Child ZIP Codes HRS restricted data set, which is made up of three separate files: 2004, 2006 and 2008.

Note: Be sure to check the HRS File Merge Cross-Reference Table for up-to-date information on the restricted data merge status of this data set.

If you find any problems with the data, please report them to us via the Help Desk, or by e-mail to hrsquestions@umich.edu.
