HRS Tracker 2006 (Final, Version 2.0)

January 31, 2008

The HRS Tracker 2006 (Final, Version 2.0) is now available.

The HRS 2006 Tracker file contains one observation for each individual who has ever been eligible to be interviewed by HRS in any wave. For each person, it contains several fixed demographic characteristics and a large number of wave-specific variables indicating interview status, and information about if, how, and when an interview was conducted. The HRS 2006 Tracker file also contains wave-specific sample weights for HRS households, respondents, and nursing home residents. Weights for 2004 Physical and Leave-Behind measures are included, and there is information on nursing home status and pension estimation information. A detailed description of the data is provided in the accompanying documentation file. Also see the updated HRS Cross-Wave Master ID File (Final, Version 2.0), now available.

Whatís new:

  • Changes to xAge, Birthmo, and Birthyr. Corrections have been made to all waves of data for xAge. The xAge variable in the Version 2.0 Tracker files contains a more precise calculation of age. The Birthmo and Birthyr variables have been updated with data from the 2006 wave of data collection.
  • Changes to USborn, Schlyrs and Degree. Due to a programming error, updates for these three variables were not being picked up for the 2004 and 2006 data collections. These additions have now been made.
  • Sample Line Dropped. In Version 1.0, two sample lines were actually the same person. Therefore, in Version 2.0 in HH 502153, the line for PN 011 (from Version 1.0) has been deleted and all of the relevant data are in PN 020.
  • Data Files Changed but Program Statements Unchanged. You will notice that all the program statements carry an October date. This is because the data structure did not change between Version 1.0 of the Tracker file and the current Version 2.0. Therefore, there was no need to produce new program statements.

Note: Be sure to check the HRS File Merge Cross-Reference Table for up-to-date information on the restricted data merge status of this data set.
