2001 Consumption and Activities Mail Survey (CAMS) Final Version 2.0

December 06, 2007

2001 CAMS Final Version 2.0 release is now available.

Some data values were updated with decimals that were inadvertently left out of the prior release, Final Version 1.0.

In the fall of 2001, two different questionnaires were mailed to two random subsamples of the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) households interviewed in 2000. One of the questionnaires, the 2001 Consumption and Activities Mail Survey (CAMS), included questions about individual activities, household patterns of consumption, and individual use of prescription drugs.

In the early release of the CAMS, the data in Section A were rounded. For example, 15 minutes would appear as 0 and 1.5 hours would appear as 2. However, in the final release of the 2001 CAMS the data in Section are not rounded. For example, 15 minutes appears in the data as .25 hours. In addition, a wave designator has been added as part of the variable name. So, A1 was renamed to A1_01. Finally, be aware of width changes as well.

Note: Be sure to check the HRS File Merge Cross-Reference Table for up-to-date information on the restricted data merge status of this data set.

If you find any problems with the data, please report them to us via the Help Desk, or by e-mail to hrsquestions@umich.edu.
