Cross-Wave HRS 1992-2004 Respondent Region and Mobility Dataset (v1.0)

May 09, 2007

The HRS 1992-2004 Cross-Wave Respondent Region and Mobility Dataset is now available. The data file contains one record for each respondent (matching Tracker 2004, Version 2.0). The 1992-2004 Respondent Region and Mobility file replaces the previously released file Respondent Region File, public release.

In addition to identification information and other basic variables, each record includes two one-time region variables, region in which the respondent was born and the region lived in while in school, and for each interview year, the region lived in at the time of each interview and urbanicity, the urban-rural characteristics of the address associated with the respondent. The HRS Urban-Rural Code, derived from the Beale Rural-Urban Continuum Code, has been collapsed to three categories, urban, suburban, and ex-urban, to preserve respondent confidentiality. Also included for each pair of interview years are distance-moved variables, the distance between the time-1 address and the time-2 address.

Note: Be sure to check the HRS File Merge Cross-Reference Table for up-to-date information on the restricted data merge status of this data set.
