Cross-Wave Employment and Pension Data Files Released

June 28, 2005

Four data sets containing cross-wave pension and employment information are now available for download:

  • Labor Section Carry Forward Variables: When an HRS respondent reported no change in employment status since the previous interview, certain questions relating to current employment were not asked. The files in this data release carry forward the information from prior waves whenever selected employment variables have been "skipped" in the current wave.

Note: This dataset replaces the Researcher Contribution of the same name released in February 2003.

  • Imputations for Pension Related Variables: Contains imputations for Donít Know, Refused, and Missing responses for key pension related variables from the HRS interview years 1992 through 2002. The imputed variables are from 1992 employment sections F, G, and H; FA, FB, FC, G, and H of 1994; G, GG, and GH of 1996, 1998, 2000; J, K, and L of 2002.

Note: This dataset updates and replaces the Researcher Contribution of the same name released in February 2003.

  • Imputations for Pension Wealth: Contains imputations for pension wealth data from current jobs on both the self-reported and the employer data. DB values are calculated or imputed from the 1993 and 1999 employer data which were obtained based on employer contact information provided by the respondent in the 1992 and 1998 core surveys. DC value imputations are based on the self-reported data.

Note: This dataset replaces the Researcher Contribution released in March 2005 as Imputed Data for Pension Wealth Computations.

  • Employer Pension Data Tracker File: Constructed to help users in identifying employees with self-reported pension coverage and employer pension plan descriptions data from the 1993 and/or 1999 employer survey(s). This file is a respondent level file that contains one record for every respondent among HRS and War Baby cohorts who participated in the core survey in 1992 and/or 1998. There are 15615 observations in the data file.

Note: This dataset replaces the Researcher Contribution released in March 2005 as Pension Data Tracker.

These data sets may be downloaded from the HRS Public File Download Area. Registration (free) is required for access. If you find problems with any of these files, please report them to us via the Help Desk, or by e-mail to hrsquestions@umich.edu.
