The Health and Retirement Study
Research Conference on Older Families

Addendum to the Call for Papers
May 29, 2003

In order to encourage greater use of our family data, the Health and Retirement Study is sponsoring a research conference on Older Families to be held February 27-28, 2004 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Papers using any aspect of the HRS family data are welcome, but we are particularly interested in papers that exploit the panel aspects of HRS data on family, kin, and intergenerational transfers. Comparisons with other data sets are welcome if the primary focus is on panel aspects of HRS. Users new to the HRS data are especially welcome to submit proposals.

The complete Call for Papers for this conference is available on the HRS web site. This addendum provides detail on the procedures for submitting a paper to the conference.

Paper Proposal Submission Deadline: July 15, 2003
Date of the Conference: Friday and Saturday, February 27-28, 2004
Conference Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico

Paper proposals should be submitted electronically to hrsquestions@umich.edu in PDF or ascii text form by July 15. The proposal should consist of an extended abstract or paper proposal of approximately two pages. If the proposed paper has previously been presented, please tell us where it was presented. A completed paper may be submitted in addition to the abstract/proposal.

Decisions will be announced on August 15. It is expected that authors will make final papers available to the conference discussants by February 1, 2004.

HRS anticipates that it will provide travel expenses for one author of each accepted paper.

Please direct enquiries to hrsquestions@umich.edu; be sure to include "Family Conference" in the subject line.
